With fire services throughout England looking to save money wherever possible as the government continues with its austerity drive, reducing instances of false fire alarms can be an effective way of decreasing the expenditure wasted on responding to incorrect alerts.
This is why there is a strong emphasis on educating businesses and homeowners on the importance of ensuring their fire safety hardware is properly maintained and monitored, as this will decrease the likelihood that the emergency services will be called out unnecessarily, enabling them to save time and prevent unnecessary costs.
Indeed, if fire crews are able to focus on genuine incidents, they can dedicate all of their resources to tackling fires rather than struggling with the strain of repeated false fire alarm activations.
So with efforts being made to cut the number of false alarms, the latest statistics released by the Department for Communities and Local Government DCLG will be welcome news. That's because the numbers show that attempts to reduce falsefire alarms are clearly having a positive impact, with seven per cent fewer cases noted in 2012-13 compared to 2011-12. Indeed, compared to the levels recorded in 2002-03, there were 38 per cent less false alarms in the past year.
