You may be thinking, what is 'Maslow's Hierarchy' and how does it involve me?
In 1943, a psychologist by the name of Abraham Maslow established a hierarchy of human needs. The points taken into consideration included our need for food, water and of course, a place to sleep.
This proves our most basic needs are physiological. This includes our need for safety and security. This could be personal safety, financial security and protection against illness.
Our need for security is vital, yet surprisingly, people do not even stop to consider it.
Secure your home, protect what matters to you
Taking care of your security and trying to ensure that you do not get your home broken into in the first place is fairly and squarely your problem. Nobody else can protect your home and family for you. Even the police can only intervene after you have been burgled.
Yes, we live in an age in which thieves and burglars abound. They will break into your premises at any available opportunity, so it is up to you to make the opportunity as hard as possible.
If you stop to consider it for a moment, burglars will always attack 'soft' targets. If you have no burglar alarm, or other obvious security measures, yet your neighbour next door does, whose home do you think they will attack? It is what has become known as a 'no-brainer' for any criminals on the prowl.
It is a sad fact of life in the 21st century, that if you don’t take care of your own security, no-one else is going to do so.
At the very least, you should have a burglar alarm protecting your home – preferably one connected directly to a call centre or the police. In addition, you could consider domestic CCTV and security lighting.
Anything that lessens your chances of a burglary is just a matter of common sense.
The alternative is too uncomfortable to consider.
