Spy Alarms are delighted to announce that we will be sponsoring hole 15 in the Sam King Golf Day on Thursday 11th September at Knole Park Golf Club in Sevenoaks.

Samuel King started out as a caddie at Knole Park in 1924 when he was just 14 years old. His home was close to the boundary fence and he used to pick up balls as he walked across the course on his way to school. It was not long before he began to play golf using clubs made out of hazel sticks and then graduated to working at the club as a caddie.

His older sister, Elsie was an assistant greenkeeper and his father cut the fairways.

After finding a rusty iron, he began practising seriously and was soon promoted to 'playing caddie', a role which allowed him to be paid a fee of five shillings for playing with the members.

He was appointed assistant professional in 1929 and he qualified for his first tournament in 1930. He is famous for qualifying for every British Open from 1932 until 1962 at Troon, finishing in the top ten nine times. He also took part in the Ryder Cup in 1937, 1947 and 1949 and became the British Professional champion in 1961 and 1962.

He was Knole Park's professional for 31 years and died in February 2003 at the ripe old age of 91.

The Sam King Golf Day is a Membership event held on the second Thursday of October every year and this year has attracted a record entry of 28 teams with 112 players. The goal is to raise money for specific projects around the golf course and has previously paid for, amongst other things, new paths.

Players will be treated to coffee and bacon rolls before the event and there will be a buffet lunch. The golf will be interspersed with several Pimms breaks.
