211 people died in fires in the home in the UK last year
It's a shocking statistic, especially as over 70% of those who lost their lives were not alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm.
To try to raise awareness and get people to test their smoke alarms on the 1st day of every month, the Fire Kills campaign is all over the nation's advertising.
The truth is that you are four times more likely to survive a fire if you have a working smoke alarm - it can buy you and your family the valuable time you need to escape.

With the clocks springing forward on March 30th, you are encouraged to test your smoke alarms at the same time as you adjust your time pieces.
Charlie Smith, the Community Safety Manager for Kent Fire & Rescue Service said: “Everyone soon notices when a clock stops ticking, but it’s not so easy to be sure that your smoke alarm is still in working order. Whether the battery is flat, has been removed or the connection is loose, everyone should take the time to test."
And don't forget to help elderly relatives or neighbours to do the same.
