Spy Alarms have been maintaining the security for Charlton Athletic Football Club in South London for several years.

So it was a great pleasure to sponsor the recent match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 16th September.

Members of the Spy Alarms office and engineering team were delighted to join nearly 16,000 fans at the game itself.

We got to meet the match officials out on the pitch as the crowd arrived, as well as getting a chance to sit in the dug out.

A Game Of Two Halves!

After 25 minutes, Charlton went ahead with Man of the Match,  Andre Bikey-Amougou, scoring from a volley.

It was great fun to see our name and logo flash up on the screen to announce the goal.

As the game continued, striker George Țucudean came close to making the score an impressive 2-0 but, unfortunately, shot wide. But the hosts were happy to go into the break on top. (more…)

Save your life, save your home—protect your family from fire

For most of us, our home is our biggest investment and our family is the centre of our life. Take the time to keep both safe from fire.

Common causes of fire

The most common causes of fire in homes in the UK are:

• badly wired electrical systems, especially common in older dwellings. Trying to save money, homeowners attempt to do the work themselves or hire odd-job men who do cut-price work. Penny-pinching could be the worst choice you ever made.

• smoking in bed, not disposing of cigarette butts properly. Though the numbers of smokers in the UK are dwindling, the problem is still a major cause of fires.

• portable heaters in awkward locations. These are easy to bump into and knock over. Also, if placed too close to furniture or a wall, they can easily overheat.

• refuse and rubbish placed too close to a garage, shed, fence or the house. A fire can spontaneously start deep in the pile, from refuse gradually getting hotter and finally causing flames. This can easily spread to nearby buildings.

• appliances left on. This is especially pertinent in the kitchen. If the stove isn’t properly turned off, it can start a fire long after the meal is prepared and the family is in bed.

Tick Tock Test – Smoke Alarm Initiative From Kent Fire Service

211 people died in fires in the home in the UK last year

It’s a shocking statistic, especially as over 70% of those who lost their lives were not alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm.

To try to raise awareness and get people to test their smoke alarms on the 1st day of every month, the Fire Kills campaign is all over the nation’s advertising.

The truth is that you are four times more likely to survive a fire if you have a working smoke alarm – it can buy you and your family the valuable time you need to escape.
